IOC, IPC, and IAKS Celebrate the World’s Best in Sports and Leisure Architecture

At a festive gala on 24 October 2023, the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), and the International Association for Sports and Leisure Facilities (IAKS) proudly presented the prestigious IOC IPC IAKS Architecture Prize - a global award honouring excellence in sustainable, inclusive, and forward-thinking sports and leisure facilities.

The event brought together leading figures from the worlds of architecture, sport, and facility management to recognize projects that are redefining the future of active spaces. Eleven outstanding facilities across five categories were awarded for their visionary design, accessibility, and functionality.

Two inventive student projects - shaping the next generation of sports architecture - received special recognition for their creativity and originality. For the first time ever, two Public Choice Awards were also presented, reflecting the voice and values of the wider community.

The 2023 edition of the competition saw an impressive 88 submissions from 22 countries, including Australia, Germany, and Canada - alongside inspiring entries from Nepal, Thailand, and Brazil. The diversity and quality of the projects reflect the growing global commitment to creating inclusive and impactful spaces for movement, play, and performance.

As we look ahead to the next competition in 2025, the IOC, IPC, and IAKS invite visionary designers, planners, and innovators from around the world to take part in shaping the future of sports and leisure architecture.
