SAP Garden in Munich

(c) Rasmus Hjortshoj
Home for sport in all its facets, including ESports
Opened in 2024, the sports arena is the new home of ice hockey team EHC Red Bull Munich and basketball team Bayern Munich while three additional underground ice rinks serve as training and public facilities. The bowl can gather up to 10,796 spectators for ice hockey and 11,500 for basketball. Beyond the sports facilities, the arena offers three levels of VIP areas, merchandise shops, a large restaurant, a gaming room, offices and conference rooms, a parking garage and a rooftop terrace.
Built on the site of the former Olympic Velodrome and with Frei Otto and Günter Behnisch’s iconic Olympic Stadium as its neighbour, the new SAP Garden arena is informed by the legacy of its location and surroundings. The 62,500m² arena project was designed by 3XN in collaboration with CL MAP and landscape architects Latz + Partner for client Red Bull. The project echoes the same democratic ideals as its historic surroundings, uniting sports and local community in a state-of-the-art sports arena.
Allianz Arena in Munich
FC Bayern's home stadium
The Allianz Arena, opened in 2005, was designed purely as a football stadium. The architecturally unique arena was constructed in under three years.
The design approach was a highly innovative, with a futuristic interpretation of the basic football stadium concept. A cascade of colour can be projected onto the smooth lozenge-shaped exterior, which takes the form of a curved translucent shell, infusing the structure with an almost magical poetry. The three-tier seating arrangement guarantees every single one of the spectators a close up view of the action, combining raw emotional interaction with all the comforts of a modern stadium.

Constant change leads to more sustainability
On the occasion of the UEFA EURO 2024, the MHP Arena has now been modernised for the sixth time, as previously by asp Architekten. The home ground of VfB Stuttgart football club is thus a prime example of the further development of the existing structure as the top priority of sustainable construction. And it shows that one of the longest-serving stadiums in Germany can also be one of the most advanced.
As a football stadium and event location, the MHP Arena is a building designed to offer visitors an exclusive experience. That is why it has been the stated aim from the outset to pay equal attention to all three pillars of sustainability. Important roles are played by economic and social sustainability in addition to the ecological principles of sustainable construction.
Lentpark in Cologne
Wet and cold
The ice and swimming stadium Lentpark accommodates two ice rinks, an indoor swimming centre with a variety of pools, a sauna, an outdoor natural water swimming pond and a restaurant. An elevated ice skating track runs as a round circuit through every part of the building providing exciting views inside and outside. An intelligent cross-linking of the building services allows for the seemingly contradictory climatic requirements of an ice and swimming facility to operate in an energy-efficient manner.
